A hydraulic system for a work machine operates to condition (eg filter) hydraulic fluids supplied by a positive displacement pump 14 when there is no demand on the pump for the hydraulic fluid by the hydraulic functions 16 of the work machine. This is achieved by positioning of the fluid conditioning circuit 18 between a closed-center directional control valve used in the work machine and the hydraulic fluid reservoir and by detecting via detector 27 if there is a demand on the pump for hydraulic fluid. If there was no demand, hydraulic fluid is directed to the fluid conditioning circuit via a bypass system 22 which is not in communication with any of the hydraulic functions of the work machine, the bypass system comprising a valve 24 controlled by a pilot or detector 27. |
