PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing capacity for delay adjustment memory of an image forming signal to each photoreceptor while maintaining quality of an image at a constant level. SOLUTION: The tandem type image forming apparatus forming a color image is provided with; a bit length conversion part converting a plurality of first image data provided for each printing color with first bit length to a plurality of second image data with second bit length with a smaller bit length than the first bit length in at least one of the printing colors, a plurality of storing parts temporarily storing the second image data for each printing color and composed to have delay amount which is different for each printing color for the second image data able to be set, a plurality of photoreceptors provided for each printing color and each arranged at prescribed spacing, and a transfer part having an image carrier moved along a plurality of the photoreceptors and transferring by superposing the printing colors on the image carrier.
