METHOD FOR PRODUCING 2-METHOXYCYCLOHEXANONE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially practicable method for the production of 2-methoxycyclohexanone without using an organic solvent by reacting trans-2-methoxycyclohexanol with sodium hypochlorite in an aqueous solvent. SOLUTION: The method for the production of 2-methoxycyclohexanone comprises the addition of sodium hypochlorite to a mixed solution of trans-2-methoxycyclohexanol, a mineral acid and water to effect the reaction of the components provided that a mineral acid salt is added to the mixed solution before the addition of sodium hypochlorite.
