PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-traveling type vacuum cleaner that secures high reliability without using a complicated mechanism and reduces un-sucked dust at lower ends of walls. SOLUTION: The self-traveling type vacuum cleaner 1 comprises a suction fan 9 for sucking dust, a fan motor 8, a dust case 10 for storing sucked dust, a suction port 13 for sucking dust, a travel wheel 5, and a battery 17 for supplying electric power. The self-traveling type vacuum cleaner 1 autonomously travels and cleans a room. The self-traveling type vacuum cleaner 1 has a front edge groove 26 partially disposed at the edge on the travel direction side of the suction port 13, a lateral groove 27 disposed at the longitudinal end of at least one side of the suction port 13, and a distance sensor 6 for detecting the distance to a surrounding matter. The self-traveling type vacuum cleaner 1 travels by driving the travel wheel 5 to direct the lateral groove 27 to the wall of a room based on an output of the distance sensor 6.
