<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow compressing an image at a high compression rate while improving readability of characters in a document image with small characters and a low-resolution image. <P>SOLUTION: A multi-value original image is subjected to an interpolation process for higher resolution. The image of high resolution is subjected to a binarizing process to acquire a high resolution binary image as well as to extract a plurality of character regions for each character color, information about position of the character region, and information about character color. The high resolution binary image at the position corresponding to the plurality of character regions having been extracted is subjected to a compression process for generating a first compressed data in the character region. The character region in the original image is filled with a specified pixel value, which is subjected to a compression process for generating a second compressed data. Then, the compressed data of the original image is generated which contains the first compressed data and second compressed data as well as color information and position information of the character region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
