The invention relates to a device for processing value documents (12), having: an inspection unit (52) for inspecting value documents (12) with a sensor unit (50) that is located in a processing area (28); a temporary storage unit (16), which is situated in an intermediate area (76), for the temporary storage of value documents (12); a transport unit (42), which is situated in the processing area (28), for transporting the value documents (12) that have been supplied to the device to the inspection unit (52) and then from said unit to the temporary storage unit (16); a final storage unit (22), which defines a final storage area (20), for at least one security container that stores value documents (12) from the temporary storage unit (16); an intermediate area housing (56) that surrounds the intermediate area (76) and has a first opening (54), through which the value documents (12) that come from the inspection unit (52) are supplied to the temporary storage unit (16), a second opening (88), through which the value documents (12) are transported from the temporary storage unit (16) to the final storage area (20) and an intermediate area housing element (86), which can be displaced back and forth between an open position, in which an operator can gain access to the temporary storage unit (16) by means of an access area and a closed position, in which the intermediate area housing (56) is protected against an operator gaining access to the temporary storage unit (16) by means of the access area and removing value documents (12). The device is also equipped with a locking element (92) for locking the intermediate area housing element (86) in the closed position. The device is also designed in such a way that the temporary storage unit (16) is protected against being accessed by an operator through the first opening (54), when the intermediate area housing element (86) is in the closed position. |
