The method involves providing upper surface areas with residual compressive stress in an edge layer, where the surface areas are loaded by tensile stress during loading of a leaf spring (11). The surface areas are compressed with a ball (33) or a roller around an axis of the spring in a rolling manner, when the tensile stress is imposed on the areas. The compression of the areas takes place by shot-blasting of the ball and in a temperature of 180 degree Celsius. An independent claim is also included for a leaf spring or a corrugated spring.
