An apparatus and a method for updating system information are provided to generate an updating package according to a difference between a reference version and an updating version when the updating version of a system is generated so as to rapidly generate a program of the updating version. An updating package processor(10) compares second version program information with first version program information, generates an updating package according to the difference between the first version program information and the second version information and transmits the updating package to an updating package server(20). The updating package server notifies at least one receiving system(30) that the updating package is generated and downloads the updating package to a receiving system which responds to the notification. The receiving system stores the downloaded updating package in a first memory as updating information of a second version program. The receiving system merges the updating package with the first version program information to generate the second version program and stores the second version program in a second memory. Then, the receiving system operates a system through the updated second version program stored in the second memory.
