A UDP-glucosyltransferase gene specifically expressed in hot pepper fruit is provided to increase the defense reaction of Capsicum annuum L. and promote the ripening of the fruit. A UDP-glucosyltransferase gene derived from Capsicum annuum L. is characterized in that it encodes a protein having an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID : NO. 2 and it has a sequence of SEQ ID : NO. 1. A UDP-glucosyltransferase protein derived from Capsicum annuum L. includes an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID : NO. 2. A composition for increasing the expression of Capsicum annuum pathogenesis-related protein 5(CaPR-5) gene comprises the UDP-glucosyltransferase protein as an effective ingredient. A composition for increasing the disease resistance of Capsicum annuum L. comprises the UDP-glucosyltransferase protein as an effective ingredient, wherein the disease is induced by TMV or Xcv pathogens.
