A heat pump air conditioner having a function for controlling flow rate of a refrigerant is provided to install a refrigerant flow rate control device for maintaining regular flow rate of a refrigerant irrespective of an increase or a decrease of an outdoor temperature. A refrigerant flow rate control device(30) is installed between a compressor(11) and an accumulator. When a heat pump cycle is in a cooling mode or a heating mode, the refrigerant flow rate control device maintains the flow rate of a refrigerant sucked into the compressor irrespective of an increase or a decrease of an outdoor temperature. The refrigerant flow rate control device includes an oil separator(21) receiving a refrigerant from the accumulator for separating the refrigerant into gaseous refrigerant and liquid refrigerant, and storing the refrigerant at the same time, at least one auxiliary accumulator(22) receiving the refrigerant from the oil separator to supply only gaseous refrigerant to the compressor, and a bypass passage(23) connecting the oil separator with an inlet side of the compressor.
