Acenquinone derivs. of formula: (where A=mono- or polynuclear annulated aryl, substd. by halogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkylamino or 1-4C alkoxy, R1 and R2=hydrocarbon =10 C and B is chalcogen or -CR3=CR4- (where R3 and R4 are H, satd. or O or tertamine contg. unsatd. aliphatic or aromatic =10 C)) are prepared by reacting O-dipropargyloylbenzoles with grp. VII B metal complexes, contng. one neutral ligand and subsequently with element chalcogens or acetylene derivs. R3-CH triple bond C-R4. They are used in the synthesis of fluorescent and natural dyes.
