PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material which improves braking feeling through controlling a compression strain amount of the friction material, without impairing friction properties. SOLUTION: This friction material is a non-asbestos friction material comprising a fiber base material, a friction adjusting material and a binder, wherein 0.5% to 2.5% by volume of partially-graphitized coke are incorporated.
