PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a performance deterioration for heat generation of LED when a large current value is given in a short time in order to obtain a desired light emission amount when LED is used for a light source of a flash device. SOLUTION: The flash device 30 comprises: a plurality of the light emitting diodes (LED) 32; a temperature sensor 36 for detecting the temperature of LED 32; and a Peltier element 33 for cooling LED 32. A control circuit 38 controls a drive current value and an energization time (light emitting time) to LED 32 from a signal commanding the light emission amount from a control circuit 11 of a camera body 10. Furthermore, energization to LED 32 is performed, energization to the Peltier element 33 is performed prior to light emission start, and cooling of LED 32 is started. Heat generated by energizing LED 32 is moved to a radiating plate 34 by drive of the Peltier element 33 to be released to the outside. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
