The step of contacting with oxygen or ferrous ion is carried out in a first phase and the step of contacting with ferrous is carried out in a second phase with a time lapse. The steps of contacting with oxygen and with ferrous ion are successively repeated in an alternating manner. The step of contacting with oxygen and ferrous ion is carried out by alternating infiltration with the help of ground water extraction facility in the ground-water. The ground water extraction facility is rinsed with oxygen-free water between the phase of contact with oxygen and the phase of contact with ferrous ion. In the process, water is removed from the groundwater extraction facility between successively following cycles, where in each cycle the oxygen and ferrous ion are incorporated. In the process, groundwater is removed from a second groundwater extraction facility, and a partial stream of the ground water is enriched with oxygen, infiltrated through the first ground water extraction facility into the groundwater, alternately set free from oxygen, mixed with ferrous ion salt and then infiltrated through the first ground water extraction facility into the groundwater. The oxygen-free water is produced by subjecting oxygen-containing water to negative pressure and/or flowing the same with an inert gas. Preferred Components: The arsenic to be eliminated is present in the form of organic compounds. The arsenic-containing water is ground water. #CMT#INSTRUMENTATION AND TESTING : #/CMT# Preferred Components: The second withdrawal line of the second ground water extraction facility, which can be connected with the aeration tank and alternatively with the device for the elimination of oxygen and the metering device for ferrous ion, and a first supply line within the first ground water extraction facility, which can be connected with the aeration tank or the metering device for ferrous ion is useful for alternating the infiltration of ferrous ion and oxygen into the ground water through the first ground water extraction facility. The device further comprises an aeration element of the ventilation tank for the feeding of atmospheric oxygen or technical oxygen. The device for the elimination of oxygen is formed of the aeration tank, which exhibits a gassing equipment for feeding of inert gas to water. The withdrawal line and the supply line within a ground water extraction facility are of same pipe. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# The arsenic containing water (with an inorganic arsenic content of 0.13 mg/l and an organic arsenic content of 0.43 mg/l) (200 ml) was contacted with a current of air enriched with oxygen and with an ferrous ion (Fe2>+>)-chloride solution in a reservoir to give a water with an inorganic arsenic content of 0.011 mg/l and an organic arsenic content of 0.105 mg/l.
