PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press felt for making paper, which inhibits a rewetting phenomenon and simultaneously has functions such as compression fatigue resistance, smoothness, fiber-fall/wearing resistance, and water-squeezing property in a good balance. SOLUTION: This press felt for making paper is characterized by containing sheath-core conjugated fibers comprising a core component comprising a high mol. wt. nylon having an absolute viscosity of≥80 mPa s and a sheath component comprising a nylon having a lower melting point than that of the core component, in at least one of a wet paper-contacting fiber layer and the first bat fiber layer, spanning the felt between a pair of rolls in an endless state, and applying a hot gas heated at a higher temperature than the melting point of the sheath component of the sheath-core conjugated fibers, or heat-pressing the felt just after the application of the hot gas, to more enhance the density of the fiber layer containing the sheath-core conjugated fibers than the density of the fiber layer not containing the sheath-core conjugated fibers. The press felt for making the paper has smoothness, fiber-fall/wearing resistance, compression fatigue resistance, and water-squeezing property in a good balance. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
