<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device achieving a wide color reproduction range equivalent to the color recognition range of a human being, and good contrast image display equal to or above the eye dynamic range (100,000:1) of a human being without spoiling the dynamic range of an image signal. <P>SOLUTION: The image display device has: color separation means 7 and 14 for separating illuminating light from a light source 1 to components of a red band, a green band and a blue band; and a wavelength selective filter 4 further selecting the illuminating light of each color band in terms of wavelength in first and second bands in a time-division manner. The illuminating light passing through them is made incident on first and second red display devices 17a and 17b, first and second green display devices 10a and 10b, and first and second blue display devices 22a and 22b. The illuminating light passing through the first display devices for respective colors 17a, 10a and 22a is made incident on the second display devices for the respective colors 17b, 10b and 22b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
