PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a worm gear device wherein play between a worm and a worm wheel is reliably removed and the energizing force of an elastic body to be used for removing the play is easily and finely adjusted. SOLUTION: The worm gear device comprises a rocking mechanism for rocking the worm 2 around one end in the direction of the pitch face of the worm wheel 3, the elastic body (a tensile spring 15) for energizing the worm 2 in the direction of approaching the worm wheel 3, an energizing force adjusting mechanism 16 for adjusting the energizing force of the elastic body 15, and a displacement inhibiting mechanism (a movable base supporting mechanism 20) for inhibiting the displacement of the worm 2 to the direction of the shaft (a rotating shaft 3a) of the worm wheel 3.
