PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging method of a nickel hydrogen battery and a charging device for executing the method capable of preventing reduction in charging efficiency, and directly charging the battery from a direct current source by an inexpensive and simple circuit. SOLUTION: In this charging method, a battery module 10, in which ten cells of nickel hydrogen batteries for backup are connected in series, is charged by connecting with a solar cell 6. The upper limit temperature TA and the lower limit temperature TB during charging the battery module 10, the lower limit value I0 of charging current I, and charging completion voltage V are preset, respectively. Next, charging has started, and the battery temperature T and battery voltage V1 of the battery module 10 under charging and the charging current I obtained from the solar cell 6 have been measured during charging. The charging continues as far as the battery temperature T exists between the upper limit temperature TA and the lower limit temperature TB, the current value of the charging current I is above the lower limit value I0, and the battery voltage V1 is below the charging completion voltage V.
