Class 100(4) An ink-ribbon vibrator mechanism can be raised by a finger knob and held latched in this position for the insertion of a ribbon. This action opens holder arms on the vibrator which are automatically closed at the next typing action. The vibrator 26 comprises a holder 27 having ends slotted at 33, 34 through which the ribbon is threaded and held by arms 41 pivoted to the holder at 42 and normally held against fingers 37 by a spring 45. Depression of a finger knob 51 first raises the vibrator to the limit of the slot connection 29 and then by its stud 46, acting on cam edges 43, forces the arms 41 to their open position to allow the ribbon to be inserted. As the lever 47 is actuated a latch bar 54 is pulled up until a latch 22 is forced by its spring 61 beneath a latch tab to hold the vibrator in the raised open position until the next typing action rotates the latch 22 to free the vibrator mechanism which returns to its normal position under the force of springs 53 and 45. To cause different throws of the vibrator for mutti-colour work or to silence it for stencil cutting the position of a fulcrum in a slot of the lever arm 67 (Fig. 1, not shown) actuating the vibrator can be adjusted.
