A balance board 1 having a longitudinal and a transverse direction comprises a top side 2 and an under side 3. The under side is mounted on a ball (8, fig. 7) such that the board is moveable relative to the ball in order that a user standing on the top side (see fig. 8) may attempt to balance the board on the ball. The under side 3 is substantially flat and includes an area 4 defined by a boundary 5 which allows movement of the board relative to the ball within a defined range. In one embodiment, the boundary is formed by a wall 5 which depends downwardly from the under side of the board. In another embodiment (see figures 12-16), the board includes upper and lower co-extensive portions (106, 107, fig. 13), the lower portion (107, fig. 13) having a through opening (108, fig. 13) such that an area (104, fig. 13) of the under side of the board is exposed and the through opening forms the boundary (105, fig. 13). The board 1 may be symmetrical in the longitudinal and transverse directions, and the top side 2 of the board may be provided with a slip-resistant surface 7. The board may be used for surfing or snow board training or physiotherapy. |
