896,604. Pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 9, 1959 [Jan. 15, 1958], No. 952/59. Class 140. A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape comprises a cellulose acetate backing film having a smooth lustrous hydrophobic surface to which a waterinsoluble rubbery base pressure-sensitive adhesive coating is firmly bonded by an interposed primer film anchored to the said backing film, the primer film being the dried deposition product of an aqueous emulsion of a mixture of latex rubber, casein and polyvinyl-pyrrolidone. The primer film may contain 5 to 20 parts casein and 20 to 90 parts polyvinylpyrrolidone per 100 parts rubber, the proportions being by weight on a dry solids basis. The rubber latex may contain natural or synthetic rubber, e.g. butadiene-styrene. The adhesive may comprise natural or synthetic rubber or a mixture thereof, and a tackifying resin. The unprimed surface of the backing film may be provided with a low-adhesion backsize coating. |
