An electroplating method and apparatus are provided to reduce surface defects of a workpiece by changing threading of a strip and changing heights of some deflector rolls in a carousel and preventing vibration of the strip. In an electroplating apparatus using a carousel(A) and a horizontal cell(B) at the same time, the electroplating apparatus comprises a cylinder(19) installed on a lower part of at least one of a plurality of deflector rolls(32a~32d) disposed above the carousel in a state that a strip(1) is bypassed relative to some conductor rolls(33a,33b) out of a plurality of conductor rolls of the carousel when plating zinc(Zn) in the horizontal cell such that the cylinder lifts the deflector roll to lift the strip. The electroplating apparatus further comprises a magnet(18) installed on the deflector rolls where the cylinder is not installed. The strip passes through only a conduction roll(33c) of the carousel adjacent to the horizontal cell.
