A method for purifying 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene is provided to recollect an extraction solvent effectively for reusing the recollected solvent, thereby reducing production cost and improving purity. A method for purifying 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene comprises the steps of mixing a mixture of dimethyl naphthalene isomers with an extraction solvent and selectively crystallizing 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene; separating the solvent and the crystal by vacuum filtration; mixing the obtained crystal with an extraction solvent and selectively crystallizing it; separating the solvent and the crystal by compression filter; and distilling and drying the obtained crystal to remove the extraction solvent and impurities contained in 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene.
