Per-compounds of acylation products of phosphorus acid are prepared by reacting hydrogen peroxide with alkali metal salts of acylation products of phosphorus acid, or with corresponding amounts of the free acid and alkali. The reaction is preferably carried out below 50 DEG C. and the product dried in vacuo. The reaction may be effected in aqueous solution, preferably using the H2O2 of at least 30% by weight strength, or the H2O2 may be added to the solid salt, H2O2 of up to 70% by weight strength being then used. When using free acid and alkali, the alkali is preferably added to the mixture of acylation product and H2O2 to a pH of 7-8.5. The products may contain up to about 2 active oxygen atoms per gram atom of phosphorus. They are used in bleaching and washing compositions (see Group IV(c)). Acylation product starting materials are prepared from phosphorus acid and acetic, propionic and caproic anhydrides and the product from malonic acid dichloride is also mentioned.ALSO:Bleaching compositions comprise products obtained by reacting hydrogen peroxide with alkali metal salts of acylation products of phosphorous acid (see Group IV(b)).
