<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a nonaqueous electrolyte cell made of inorganic fiber paper which can be manufactured by a wet paper-making method, structured virtually of inorganic materials alone with inorganic fiber as main ingredient made of inorganic fiber papar having an enough mechanical strength although with a low basis weight of 50g/m<SP>2</SP>or less, with excellent electrolyte wettability, heat resistance and uninflammability, and free from generating any decomposition product derived from an organic matter, as well as a nonaqueous electrolyte cell using the separator. <P>SOLUTION: The separator for a nonaqueous electrolyte cell is manufactured from materials consisting of 60 to 97% by mass of inorganic fiber with an average fiber radius of 4 μm or less, 20 μmol/m<SP>2</SP>or more hydroxyl groups per specific surface area by BET method, and 3 to 40% by mass of inorganic binders mainly composed of silica-system scale-like inorganic matter with a mean particle diameter by laser dispersion method of 2μm or less, and an aspect ratio of 10 or more. The inorganic fiber is jointed by the inorganic binders, and is substantially composed of the inorganic materials alone, consisting of inorganic fiber paper with a basis weight of 50 g/m<SP>2</SP>or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
