PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable liquid crystal display device which has a photo-spacer with an excellent adhesion property to a transparent electrode on a color filter substrate surface, and method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device having: a substrate equipped with a plurality of electrodes; and a color filter substrate 10A equipped with a plurality of color filter layers 13R-13B respectively arranged so as to be opposite to the plurality of electrodes, and a transparent electrode 15 disposed on the plurality of color filter layers 13R-13B, the liquid crystal display device is characterized in that a recession 16 is formed on a non-pixel region of the transparent electrode 15, the photo-spacer 17A which is composed of a photoresist and which retains a distance between the substrate equipped with the plurality of electrodes and the color filter substrate to a desired value is fit into the recession 16, and the photo-spacer 17A is equipped with a fitting portion 17A<SB>1</SB>to fit into the recession 16 and a flat portion 17A<SB>2</SB>being adjacent to the fitting portion and being in contact with a surface of the transparent electrode 15.
