PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a button type alkaline battery improved in leakproof characteristics. SOLUTION: The button type battery is equipped with a negative electrode case 8 serving as a negative electrode terminal, a positive electrode case 1 which is caulked and fixed to the negative electrode case 8 and serves as a positive electrode terminal, an insulating gasket 9 which is interposed between the negative electrode case 8 and the positive electrode case 1 and has an annular groove formed so as to surround the surroundings of the negative electrode case 8, and a gelled negative electrode 10 which contacts the inner face of the negative electrode case 8 and contains a negative electrode active material including zinc.
