The present invention refers to a gravity irrigation system using a plastic film canal for effectively using water and reducing water loses by filtration, which is characterised in that it comprises a plastic film having the required thickness to form a canal for conveying an irrigation water stream down and between furrows and having a length enough to cover the furrows length; the film comprises a plurality of apertures and/or frangible sections distributed along the longitudinal section thereof and may or may not be spaced equidistantly from each other, said perforations being defined by narrowing lines or successive small apertures or cuts forming diverse shapes, which are detached to generate successive, alternate or continuous apertures for delivering water to the radicular system of crops in accordance with the crop type and the required water volume. The aforementioned plastic film is manually or mechanically placed in the valleys located between furrows, thus generating a can al for conveying irrigation water, the side edge portions of the canal being buried into the furrow ribs, thereby covering the whole valleys and part of the furrow ribs.
