摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark-ignition internal combustion engine in which occurrence of engine knocking is inhibited even though the constitution is simple. <P>SOLUTION: In an intake stroke, an air-fuel mixture injected from an intake-port fuel injection valve 21 is introduced into a combustion chamber 13, and pre-mixture 31 having a homogenous concentration-distribution is formed in the inside of the combustion chamber 13. In a compression stroke, a cylinder injection of fuel is effected from a direct fuel-injection valve 22 to the peripheral part in the with of the combustion chamber 13 to form a mixture layer 32 having nonhomogeneous concentration-distribution around the periphery within the combustion chamber. The pre-mixture 31 in the center of the combustion chamber 13 is ignited by an ignition plug 23 to cause flame-propagation combustion of the mixture 31, 32 within the combustion chamber 13. Nonhomogeneous mixture layer 32 is present on the periphery within the combustion chamber 13. Thus, even though a self ignition is locally generated around the periphery of the combustion chamber 13, the self ignition is inhibited from instantaneously spreading into other areas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p>
