PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further surely and accurately determine a misfire of an internal combustion engine with a plurality of cylinders capable of outputting a motive power to a driving shaft via a torsional element such as a damper, by restraining influence of a chipped tooth in a rotary body used when detecting a rotational position of an output shaft of the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: A post-filter duration F30 is determined by applying a bypass filter for removing a resonance component of the damper to a time change in a 30-degree duration T30 required for rotating a crankshaft by 30 degrees (S110), and the misfire is determined by calculating a determining difference J30 (S120 and S130), by calculating a duration difference D30, by avoiding a position of the chipped tooth of a timing rotor used for a sensor for detecting a crank angle by using a post-filter duration F30. Thus, erroneous detection of the misfire based on the chipped tooth can be restrained, and even if torsional resonance is caused, the misfire of the engine can be further surely and accurately determined.
