PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption during a search cycle of a content addressable memory and to increase the speed of a search operation. SOLUTION: An entry (ERY) including multiple bits of unit cells (UC) each storing data bit is coupled to a match line (ML). The match line is supplied with a charging current (Ip) having a restricted current value smaller than a match line current flowing in a one-bit miss state, but larger than a match line current flowing in an all-bit match state.
