PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste treatment method and a waste treatment device where, regarding waste treatment in which waste such as kitchen garbage is subjected to decomposition treatment with the force of treatment organisms, the reduction of the power consumption in a heating/deodorizing apparatus can be attained, and further, the content of water in a base material can be optimally held. SOLUTION: In a method or a device where, when a mixture of waste stored in a treatment tank and a base material is stirred, and the waste is subjected to decomposition treatment utilizing treatment organisms cultured in the base material, exhaust gas accompanied by a bad smell generated in the treatment tank is deodorized under heating, and is released to the outside of the treatment tank, so as to treat the waste, a gas heat-exchanged with the high temperature exhaust gas subjected to the deodorizing under heating is circulated in the treatment tank by a circulation fan, and further, the content of water in the mixture of the waste and the base material is detected, and, based on the detected water content, the circulation fan is controlled.
