METHOD FOR PREVENTING STOPPAGE OF PLAYING CONTENTS IN VIDEO ON DEMAND SERVICE AND SET TOP BOX OF THE SAME

A method for preventing stoppage of playing contents in video on demand service and a set top box of the same are provided to replay VOD(Video On Display) contents after download as much as stoppage protecting time while replaying VOD contents so that a user can watch VOD contents without stoppage and improving VOD service quality. A method for preventing stoppage of playing contents in video on demand service and a set top box of the same comprises the following steps of: starting download of an ordered VOD contents(ST110); detecting a first download rate(ST115); computing contents download time(ST120); outputting contents reproducing time from an electronic program guide(ST125); comparing the contents download time with the contents reproducing time; playing the VOD contents when the contents download time is shorter than the contents reproducing time(ST130); computing a first download waiting time when the contents download time is longer than the contents reproducing time(ST135); and playing the VOD contents after passing the first download waiting time(ST160).
