PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recovery method which enables the infilling of ink and the removal of air bubbles generated in the ink, without generating the air bubbles, because the poor formation of an image and a failure in a head are caused by having the air bubbles generated and accumulated in a recording head and an ink passage, while the ink is ejected to a certain degree, when the recording head and the ink passage are recovered. SOLUTION: The head and the ink passage are brought under negative pressure by a suction pump; the negative pressure of the head and the ink passage is maintained by using a negative pressure tank; and the ink is poured in, so that recovery can be performed without the intrusion of the air bubbles. Since the ink is not sucked in from a head nozzle or discharged by the pressure of the pump, a recovery tub can be structurally simplified to be downsized. Additionally, since the ink is hardly brought into contact with air, the mixture of dust into the ink and thickening caused by the evaporation of moisture can be prevented in the recycling of the ink, so that image quality can be stabilized.
