A liquid crystal display device and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to restrain generation of bad connection when a terminal of an external circuit is connected with an external connection area by interposing an anisotropic conductive film, thereby improving the yield of the liquid crystal display device. A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate(10) and a second substrate bonded by interposing a liquid crystal layer, a pixel area including a plurality of display pixels, and an external connection area to be connected with an external device. The pixel area includes an active layer arranged on the first substrate, a first insulator film(12) covering a whole surface of the first substrate including the active layer, gate electrodes arranged on the active layer on the first insulator film, and a second insulator film(16) covering the gate electrodes. The external connection area includes a metal layer(15) arranged on the first insulator film, a first conductive layer(19) arranged to cover the second insulator film covering the metal layer and an area formed on the metal layer on the second insulator film, and a passivation film(20) arranged on the first conductive layer, having apertures to be connected with the external device.
