An image forming apparatus and an image forming method are provided to solve a problem of the related art that a separation force of a sheet separation member is deteriorated as a force of making feed rollers in press-contact with the separation member is deteriorated. An image forming apparatus includes an image forming module, a sheet receiving module, feed rollers(58), a sheet separation member, and a press-contact force reduction device(122). The sheets supplied from the image forming module are stacked in the sheet receiving module. The feed rollers receive sheets from the sheet receiving module. The sheet separation member makes press-contact with the feed rollers and separates a sheet from the contact part with the feed rollers. The press-contact force reduction device lowers the press-contact force of the feed rollers while maintaining the sheet separation force of the sheet separation member.
