A data recording and reproducing device is provided to record a large amount of data at high speed and to reduce the size thereof by positioning an optical component effectively. A data recording and reproducing device comprises a shaft(10), a base member, a motor(15), and an optical system. The base member is moved with the shaft. The optical system is positioned at the base member to generate a reference beam and a signal beam including data, to send the reference beam and the signal beam to a recording medium, to receive a reproducing beam from the recording medium, and to reproduce the recorded data. The motor moves the base member combined with the shaft by rotating the shaft.
