A composition comprising catechin derivatives is provided to inhibit growth of influenza virus and binding between influenza virus and cells as well as binding between various kinds of influenza virus subtypes and cells, so that the composition is useful for prevention and treatment of infectious disease caused by human and avian influenza virus. A composition for prevention and treatment of infectious disease caused by influenza virus comprises catechin derivatives including epigallocatechin derivatives represented by the formula(1) or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R is C1-18 linear or branched alkyl group or cyclic, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon optionally substituted by a group selected from C1-15 linear or branched alkyl, C3-15 cycloalkyl, C1-15 haloalkyl, C3-15 cyclohaloalkyl, C6-15 aryl, C6-15 arylalkyl, C6-15 alkylaryl, C1-15 alkoxy, C6-15 aryloxy, halogen and amino.
