A differential apparatus having a backlash decreasing function is provided to damp the vibration transferred from a differential case by using an insulation member. A transfer driven gear(10) receives a driving force from an output shaft of a transmission, and a differential case(12) is engaged with the transfer driven gear. A pair of differential pinions(16) are rotatably installed in the differential case via a pinion shaft(14). A pair of side gears(18) are meshed with the pair of differential pinions. A pair of driving shafts(20) are spline-engaged with inner peripheries of the side gears. A resilient support member(22) is interposed between the differential case and the side gear to press the side gear against the differential pinion. An insulation member(26) is interposed between first and second spring plates(24,24').
