A method, in a communication device, for communicating multimedia with a communication manager operating in a group communication network is disclosed. The method comprises: (a) providing a type of the communication device to the communication manager, where the type indicates the multimedia the communication device is capable of communicating, (b) selectively communicating the multimedia based on the type of the communication device, and (c) encapsulating multimedia from the communication device, by grouping one or more data frames representing multimedia information, including multimedia payload format descriptors, within a payload and upon confirmation that the communication device is authorized to participate in a selected group, and in response to an invite request to participate in the selected group, a description of multimedia and signalling parameters is embedded and provided to a group participant.
