<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the productivity of a document editing operation by defining a field whose stamp content is variable, and whose attributes are common on each page of a document. <P>SOLUTION: A variable field 2201 is defined about an arbitrary page in a document. A shared flag as one of the attributes of the variable field is set so that the variable field can be applied as a variable field 2202 to be overlayed about the other pages in the document.
