An organic electrolytic solution and a lithium battery employing the same are provided to improve a charge and discharge efficiency and a long life by relatively inhibiting reductive cleavage of a polar solvent to improve a capacity retention rate of a battery. An organic electrolytic solution includes a lithium salt, an organic solvent, and a compound represented by the following formula 1 or formula 2, wherein each of X and Y is independently hydrogen, a halogen group, a halogenated alkyl group, an alkyl carbonyl group, an alkoxy carbonyl group, a nitro group, or a halogenated benzyl, with the proviso that both X and Y are not hydrogen. The solvent comprises a highly dielectric solvent and a low boiling point solvent. |
