<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving mechanism for a traveling carriage for traveling on a rail laid along a required carrying passage, which driving mechanism has an oil reservoir for smoothing the engagement of a driving gear with a driven gear. <P>SOLUTION: In the driving mechanism 100 for the traveling carriage for traveling on the rail laid along the required carrying passage, flanges 140c are provided at the outer peripheral edges of wheels, and the teeth of a driven gear 140a are provided on the outer peripheral portion of the flanges. The driving gear 160 mounted on the output shaft of a driving source 150 is engaged with the driven gear, and the driven gear and the driving gear are covered by a housing 170 having the oil reservoir for storing the lubricating oil for smoothing the engagement of the driven gear and the driving gear.
