PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a panel type display device which has sufficient strength and stiffness although it is of lightweight. SOLUTION: An extruded material such as a square shaped steel plate etc. is used for a rectangular frame 25 with a size nearly fitting a periphery of a display panel 32. The display panel 32 is attached to the front face side of the rectangular frame 25, and an assembly or a unit of a backlight 40 holding fluorescent tubes 41 on a reflection plate 43 via a fixture 42 is inserted through a slit shaped opening section 26 on the side face of the frame 25 and is contained and held inside the frame 25.
