PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strut type shock absorber having a structure in which a knuckle bracket is welded to an outer shell, and securing the air-tight state of the outer shell and a lower cap at low manufacturing cost, even in the case where the knuckle bracket is formed of material quality to easily cause blow hole. SOLUTION: A knuckle bracket 6 constructed by a substantially cylindrical bracket body 4 holding an outer shell 3, and a pair of knuckle arm fitting holding parts 5 formed projecting in the lateral direction from the bracket body 4, is mounted on the outer shell 3, the base end of which is fitted with the lower cap 2, and an interrupt member 8 extending downward from the proximal end part is provided on the proximal end part of the outer shell 3, and a boundary part between the distal end part 8a of the interrupt member 8 and the knuckle bracket 6 and a boundary part between the outer shell 3 and the lower cap 2, are independently welded.
