PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for starting an engine capable of securing cooling properties of a stator coil when the rigidity of an outer ring is increased. SOLUTION: A starter clutch 23 is provided with an outer ring 26 rotating together with a rotor (starter member) 15 and a cam 27 put between the outer ring 26 and a starter gear 2. A through hole 15d is formed on the rotor 15 to oppose to the outer ring 26 in an axial direction, and a step part S is formed between an outer circumference part and an inner circumference part opposing to a radial direction outer side edge 15d '' of the through hole 15d of the outer ring 26.
