A piston for a swash plate type compressor is provided to engage a shoe socket having an engaging protrusion into a hollow body part of the piston, thereby stably joining shoe socket to the body part without any additional welding. A piston for a swash plate type compressor includes a body part(110) having a groove(111) opened at a side and a fixing groove(112) formed in an inner peripheral surface of the opened groove. A shoe socket(120) has an insertion part(121) to be inserted into the opened groove of the body part, and a fitting protrusion(122) formed outside the insertion part to be fastened in the engaging groove. A welding part is formed along an outer peripheral surface of contact portions between the body part and the shoe socket, wherein the welding part is formed along a clearance of the outer peripheral surface.
