PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely prevent excessive supply of toner without using a level sensor that detects quantity of toner in the main body of the developing device. SOLUTION: The developing device 20 used for a printer 10 includes: a main body 30 of the developing device, which has a developing roller 34 for supplying toner to a photoreceptor drum 131 by rotating around its axis; a toner cartridge 40, which has a supply roller 43 for supplying toner to the main body 30 of the developing device by rotating around its axis; and a switching mechanism 50 for mechanically switching the supply roller 43 between stop and rotation according as whether or not the quantity of toner in the main body 30 of the developing device 30 has reached the upper limit level L set in advance.
