PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a mutant of leguminous plant having an enhanced symbiotic nitrogen fixation ability of leguminous plant and rhizobium without carrying out gene transfer and preventing growth of leguminous plant and seeds thereof and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing a mutant of leguminous plant having enhanced symbiotic nitrogen fixation ability of leguminous plant and rhizobium comprises germinating seeds obtained by mutagenizing a leguminous plant in a medium containing abscisic acid in a concentration unable to germinate a wild type leguminous plant so as to select a mutant of leguminous plant having enhanced symbiotic nitrogen fixation ability of leguminous plant and rhizobium.
