The plant consists of a feeder for drop formers followed by a pipe extrusion post with a calibrator and a welding system (30, 30a) for fixing the formers to the pipe's inner surface, and cooling and pipe piercing posts. Some 600 mm after the extrusion post the plant has a stabilising post (27) inside a liquid-filled cooling chamber (26). The stabilising post has two endless belts (42a, 42b) between 400 and 1000 mm long on pulleys (48a, 48b) driven by motors so they advance at a linear speed equal to that of the pipe. The surfaces of the belts in contact with the pipe have coatings of an elastic material such as rubber or a synthetic polymer so they can draw the pipe through the cooling chamber.
